It is the latter tournament in which the young Blues face the Canaries in a 7pm kick-off under the lights at Goodison. *Entry is free for Season Ticket holders and Foreverton members, with admission otherwise £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.

Everton select Darron Gibson in under-23 match to speed up returnBlues midfielder to face Norwich City at Goodison in Premier League Cup on Friday nightDarron Gibson will play for Everton’s under-23s on Friday night to speed up his return to full fitness. The 29-year-old underwent a groin operation in September and has made just one appearance for the Blues this season. But Gibson is set to face Norwich City u-23s at Goodison in a Premier League Cup tie (7pm). Tom Davies, who played for the second string against Chelsea on Monday night, looks set for a first-team recall. Everton are without midfield dynamo Idrissa Gueye for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea as he serves a one game ban. James McCarthy continues to be sidelined with a hamstring injury while Mo Besic is a long-term absentee after undergoing a knee operation. Ronald Koeman says Davies and Tom Cleverley are in his plans for the game at Stamford Bridge. “He needs 90 minutes to be fit for the squad. “So it is between Cleverley and Davies, that is the options that we have. “Not a lot. That makes it more easy.” Asked if the absence of Gueye means he has to change the way Everton play, Koeman added: “It is not if we change, yes or no, the system. “With Davies and Cleverley we can keep the system or we can change the system.” Liv Echo

Everton U23s 1-4 Norwich U23s - Henen sent off as young Blues crumble to defeatGibson and Browning start but Canaries left chirping after Premier League Cup tieEverton under-23s suffered a miserable evening at a soggy Goodison as they were thumped 4-1 by Norwich City in the Premier League Cup. Both Darron Gibson and Tyias Browning stepped up their return to full fitness by featuring for the first 45 minutes. But David Unsworth's side were well below par during a disappointing performance in which David Henen was dismissed late on for two bookable offences. The Blues started positively but lost their way before the interval and were behind on 44 minutes when, moments after hitting the post, Norwich were ahead when Louis McIntosh converted a Diallang Jaiyesimi pass. Henen came close after the restart but two goals in as many minutes settled the tie. First, on 63 minutes, Jaiyesimi shot into the far corner before Glenn Middleton snaffled a straightforward tap-in from a corner as the Blues fell apart. Henen saw red on 83 minutes after a picking up a second yellow before substitute Callum Dyson pulled a goal back. But Norwich had the last say when Todd Cantwell consigned the young Blues to a heavy defeat. EVERTON (4-2-3-1): Gray; Kenny, Browning (Jones 46), Feeney, Robinson; Gibson (Duffus 46), Foulds (Dyson 64); Dowell, Charsley, Henen; Calvert-Lewin. Subs: Renshaw, Yarney. Liv Echo
