Do you think we'll be announcing him next? I can see why he'd be a good signing but I hope it's not going to be at the expense of John Stones. He'd probably make a good captain though if he comes.

I think Stones is as good as gone tbh & with injuries to Jags and now Pennington, we need at least 1 new CB.

Swansea City have rejected a bid from Everton - believed to be worth £10m - for central defender Ashley Williams.
The Wales and Swans captain was reported to be close to agreeing a move to Goodison Park.
Williams, who turns 32 later this month, is contracted to Swansea until 2018.
A club spokesman said: "We are not looking to sell him, and therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table."

Dramatic twist in Ashley Williams deal as Swansea City turn down Everton FC bidThe Wales captain had been expected to sign on Wednesday but there have been dramatic developmentsAshley Williams' proposed move to Everton is on the brink of collapse after Swansea City turned down the Toffees' £10m offer for the Wales star. The Swans captain had looked all set for a move to Goodison after a deal was seemingly in place to take the 31-year-old to Merseyside. But following final talks on the move today, Swansea have fought back and sensationally blocked the deal by formally rejecting the bid from Ronald Koeman for the centre-back. It had been thought Swansea were open to the proposal of finally cashing-in on Williams after years of resisting big money bids for their skipper. And with the 65-cap ace said to have been tempted by a new challenge after eight years service at the Liberty, a move to link up with Dutchman Koeman was on the cards with the prospect of it being finalised on Wednesday. But it emerged late on Tuesday that Swansea had moved to bat away Everton's £10m bid – with the club stressing they have never looked to sell one of their most vital players. A Swansea spokesman said: “Ashley Williams is an important part of our squad and club and we are not looking to sell him, and therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table.” Swans boss Francesco Guidolin had been known to have been keen on having Williams – who captained Wales to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 last month – in his plans for the new campaign that kicks-off in less than two weeks time. And the news that Williams could yet begin the campaign at Burnley on August 13 will lift the spirits of Swans fans who also saw key midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson sign a new four-year deal following big-money interest, including from Everton. It remains to be seen whether either Everton or Williams will push to make the deal happen, but as it stands Swansea are refusing to budge as they look to hold onto their captain. WalesOnline
