Everton interested in Ashley Williams - but no deal agreed yetSwansea City captain is on a shortlist of defenders interesting Ronald KoemanSwansea City captain Ashley Williams is on a shortlist of defenders interesting Everton . But despite reports claiming a £10m deal had been agreed with Swans, the ECHO understands that the Blues’ pursuit is not that far advanced. Williams, it is believed, would be tempted to a move to Goodison if Ronald Koeman made a move but it would mean the 31-year-old leaving the club where he has spent the last eight years of his career. Koeman wants to add power and presence to Everton’s backline and expects to lose John Stones to Manchester City even though the clubs remain apart in their valuation of the player. Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly also remains a target and Wales skipper Williams would fit the profile of defender Koeman wants to add to the squad. Williams signed a new four year deal with Swansea in the summer of 2014 and so the Liberty Stadium side will push for more than the reported £10m fee if their skipper asks to leave for Everton. The former Stockport County defender, who was a target for Liverpool in recent seasons, has not yet returned to pre-season training with Swansea after being given an extended break following his exploits in Euro 2016. Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin said of Williams: “He is very important for us and I don’t know this situation and I can say nothing.” Liv Echo

Williams is 32 in August. Is that an issue? If he's in addition no, but if he's a swap for 22 year old Stones then yes.

Williams is 32 in August. Is that an issue? Jagielka is nearly 34 so it depends on who plays and who goes. Stones and Mori are young but if we're honest they haven't got any experience. I don't think it's just in the middle where our defensive issues lie. Baines and Coleman might be good going forward but both are shite defensively and our midfield doesn't defend well either especially if Ross is playing.
