One poor performance must not overshadow Everton’s record at Goodison Park over the last 12 months. That’s the message from Sylvain Distin as the Blues aim to respond after last weekend’s surprise defeat to Wigan Athletic. The French defender admits he is still smarting from the manner of the Club’s FA Cup exit but also stresses a positive result against the reigning Premier League champions can reinvigorate the Blues in their push for a top-five finish. The 3-0 loss to the Latics was only Everton’s second defeat in 21 matches on home soil - a sequence of results that stretches back almost a year and includes victories against current top-flight leaders Manchester United and Europa League quarter-finalists Tottenham Hotspur.Manchester City have also been dispatched on each of their last three visits to Everton, with Roberto Mancini only ever tasting defeat at Goodison Park during his reign as manager.“So far this season it [home form] has been really good but one game like last week can make you forget about everything you have done before,” Distin exclusively told evertontv. “We have to keep in mind that the season isn’t over and we have to finish with good form and carry on what we have done before.”The Club’s February player of the month added: “Nobody likes to come and play at Everton when we are right at it and the fans are behind us. It’s definitely not a place you like to come to. “I’m a player for Everton but I have been on the other side as well when I have come to play here for other teams. It’s not a place you want to go, definitely.”Distin celebrates scoring against Manchester City in May 2011.Whilst the record at Goodison is a source of confidence for all Everton fans, another positive trend is that the Blues have taken 22 points from the last 30 available in league matches against Manchester City.Distin, however, says Everton must not be caught cold again in another Saturday lunchtime kick-off, especially with City scrapping for every single point in their bid for a second successive Premier League crown. He said: “We do have a good record [against Manchester City] and I don’t think we have had many defeats in the last 10 games we have played against them, but all that can change really quickly. “They are a really strong side and have easily got two teams that could play in the Premier League and compete for the title. We have to keep that in mind.“They are going to try to win the title no matter what, even if people believe it is over. They are going to try their best and hope Manchester United make a few mistakes as well. “We can’t expect an easy game because they have got individuals in their squad who can change a game in a second. It’s going to be a tough game.”
