David Unsworth praised the influence of Tony Hibbert after the Everton stalwart helped the Club’s Under-21s side pick up their third successive victory. Hibbert was playing as one of the allotted over-age players at Goodison Park on Monday night as he made his long-awaited return from injury against Manchester City. The 35-year-old played the first half in the 1-0 victory - a result which elevated the Young Blues up to third in the table. “The two centre-halves were outstanding and it was great to see Tony Hibbert get 45 minutes,” Unsworth said. “That was always the plan for him to get half a game. “I thought Tony was brilliant - he’s great with the young lads, in the dressing room and throughout the game. “Mason Holgate and Morgan Feeney will never have a better chance to pick up some tips than playing alongside Tony.” The contest was decided by Kieran Dowell’s fine solo goal - the latest impressive strike in the forward’s repertoire. “It won’t be the last - I can assure you!” Unsworth continued. “Kieran’s in a great vein of form. “We know his qualities on the ball, we know how dangerous he is but what he is learning to do every week is the defensive side of the game as well, which I thought he was outstanding with tonight.”
