Is it out of the question to play great football and win?
Some fans (including certain folk on another forum with their heads up their arses) will accept terrible football week in week out as long as the team win, because they are so desperate to fulfil their sad little lives with a victory, but don't have the vision or the drive to actually achieve something themselves with their own lives, and instead rely on the club to fill the gap.
As a fan, I want the team to be playing the best possible football, so at the end of the match, I am thoroughly entertained and they've done the club proud. If they can achieve great football then they will go onto better things naturally, but when they win, I am delighted for them, and most of all the club.
My pleasure comes from watching 'Everton' succeed, and sharing that moment, just as I'd get pleasure from watching my own children delight in their own achievements. The difference being with kids is that you don't sell them when they're misbehaving ha ha.
Players are paid incredible amounts of money to 'play well and give everything'. They're not being given the opportunity to represent us so they can lazy arse about and scrape a lucky win every week. The players I'll warm to, but they'll earn my support with effort, as my passion is for the spirit of the club, and players come and go.
As a fan I could never accept half arsed efforts from players, and if we play terribly, but fluke a lucky goal, or get awarded a dodgy penalty, I'll be thankful we got the 3 points, and I'll cheer the goal, but I'll still shake my head and ask what the hell was that all about afterwards? I want to see players who get the chance to represent our team give everything, especially now we live in the age of filthy rich players while fans cough up their hard earned cash. Against United tonight though of all nights, I want our players to play with passion and ferocity, and if they do that, but United just edge it with the quality they have, I'll be proud, but just don't roll over and allow them to bully you ..........
Actually, on second thoughts, sod it.
I don't care if you have to take baseball bats and Uzi 9mm's, just don't let them score, and make sure you batter the fockers so we can look Moyes in the eye and let him know we are Everton, and we'll be Everton forever !

I can see what Martinez is saying but I think it's probably been taken out of context a bit as has been said play well and win is the desired result in any match. If we want to get back to being one of the best clubs we have to have the right mindset and view the big games as another day in the office so to speak.
