Loan Round-Up - 8 FebruarySix of Everton’s on-loan contingent were in action this weekend. Kicking off in League One, Conor McAleny made a goalscoring debut for Wigan Athletic as they defeated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The Latics were already a goal up though Will Grigg’s penalty when McAleny took aim from the edge of the box and beat Blades’ keeper George Long. In the Championship, Aiden McGeady was another to make his bow as Sheffield Wednesday travelled to Birmingham City. With the Owls behind to Clayton Donaldson’s first-half goal, McGeady was withdrawn on 67 minutes but watched on happily as Gary Hooper turned the game on its head with two quick-fire goals to snatch the points. Elsewhere in that division, Luke Garbutt played the full 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Derby County. The full-back’s cross led to Ram’s defender Marcus Olsson putting through his own net, but Craig Bryson levelled to earn a share of the spoils. Abroad, Shani Tarashaj’s Grasshopper Zurich returned to action after the winter break. They played out a 1-1 draw at Young Boys in a clash that saw second play third in the Swiss Super League, with Tarashaj emerging from the bench for the final 15 minutes. Back to England and the fit-again David Henen managed the final 29 minutes of Fleetwood's 1-1 draw at home to Shrewsbury Town, a result that keeps the Cod Army in the bottom four of League One. Conor Grant’s Doncaster Rovers had their game at Scunthorpe United postponed due to the inclement weather and that was also the case at Yeovil, meaning Liam Walsh was not in action for the Glovers, who were due to face League Two high-flyers Plymouth Argyle. Ryan Ledson did feature however and helped Cambridge United edge Dagenham and Redbridge 1-0, playing 63 minutes of a victory that saw the U’s climb to ninth in the table and within a point of the play-off places. Both Walsh and Ledson have earned plenty of plaudits at their respective loan clubs and it was confirmed on Monday morning that the duo would have their spells extended by a further month.

Top quality goal from Conor Mac. He struck it well. I liked what I saw with him but he has no chance of first team football here so hopefully he can impress and get a good club.
