There were differing fortunes for Everton’s ever-increasing band of loan players this weekend. Liam Walsh, freshly loaned to Yeovil last week went straight into the Glovers’ starting XI for their FA Cup third round game against Carlisle. The diminutive midfielder (pictured above celebrating their first goal) played 86 minutes of the encounter, being withdrawn shortly before the Somerset side snatched their late equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw and force a replay. Also in the FA Cup, both Conor Grant and Luke Garbutt were on the losing side for their respective loan outfits. Grant played the full game as Doncaster Rovers lost 2-1 to Stoke, but the League One side could consider themselves unfortunate to lose out to their Premier League foes. Garbutt played 71 minutes as his Fulham side exited 2-1 at the hands of in-form Sheffield Wednesday in an all-Championship clash. Minor injuries prevented David Henen and Francisco Junior playing for Fleetwood and Wigan, while in League Two Ryan Ledson got another 90 minutes for Cambridge as they lost 1-0 to Crawley in what Us boss Shaun Derry called ‘a horrible, scrappy game’. And down in the Northern Premier League, there was a baptism of fire for Tyrone Duffus as his first game for Skelmersdale United ended in 4-0 defeat at the hands of Salford City.
