A combination of injury and the inclement weather meant just three of Everton’s youngsters featured at the weekend. Kicking off in the Championship, Luke Garbutt was introduced as a second-half substitute as Fulham fell to defeat against Sheffield Wednesday. The 1-0 loss signalled the start of new manager Slavisa Jokanovic’s reign as Fulham’s new manager after he took over from Kit Symons. Dropping into League One, there was better news for Conor Grant and Doncaster Rovers. Midfielder Grant played the full 90 minutes as Rovers saw off Southend 3-0 to move into the top half of the table for the first time this season. Felipe Mattioni did not feature, having limped off in the first half of Rovers’ previous outing at Oldham Athletic. David Henen missed Fleetwood’s 2-0 win over Bury with a minor knock, as Steven Pressley’s side gave their survival hopes a boost. Ryan Ledson was another to feature from start to finish but he couldn’t stop Cambridge United slumping to a 4-1 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon. That result brought an end to an impressive six-game unbeaten run for the U’s. Finally, Delial Brewster and Stockport County saw their game with Harrogate Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
