Everton made checks on Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Alfred Finnbogason for Iceland against Croatia but both had disappointing nights. The Toffees' Scandanavian scout, Bryan King, made the trip to Rejkjavic for the World Cup playoff in order to assess Sigthorsson, 23, and Finnbogason, 24. But Iceland's highly-rated front two drew a blank and were replaced as the first-leg match finished 0-0. Sigthorsson had scored in each of his country's last five internationals as Iceland made their unlikely challenge for a berth at Brazil 2014, but was substituted at half-time. The Ajax forward, who has 18 months left on his contract at the Amsterdam Arena, has been among the goals at club level too - bagging six in 11 starts so far this season. Everton have also been linked with Heerenveen forward Finnbogason this season but, although he lasted slightly longer, he was withdrawn just after the hour after also failing to impress. The Toffees have been tracking Finnbogason since his Lokeren days, but will face stiff competition for his signature in the summer after his prolific return of 14 goals so far in the Eredivisie.
