Garry Monk sacked by Swansea after one win in last 11 games• Defeat against Leicester left Swansea 15th in Premier League • Swansea chairman says decision make ‘with a heavy heart’ Garry Monk was appointed by Swansea in May 2014 after a successful spell as interim manager. Garry Monk has been sacked as Swansea manager after a run of just one win in 11 Premier League matches. The former defender, who was appointed in May 2014 after a successful spell as interim manager, leaves with the Welsh side 15th in the table following Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Leicester. Swansea are one point above the relegation zone. Monk’s post has been under scrutiny for several weeks after a run of poor results saw Swansea drop into the bottom half of the table despite a strong start to the season. He took training on Wednesday morning, after which his departure was confirmed. Swansea City’s chairman, Huw Jenkins, told the club’s website: “The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart. To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision today. “Garry took on the job 22 months ago with the backing of everyone at the club. And when you take into account the excellent campaign we had last season when we broke all club records in the Premier League, nobody foresaw the position we would be in at this moment in time. “Bearing that in mind and the current uncertainty around the club, we felt the situation needed clarity to move forward. It was not a decision we took lightly, especially given Garry’s history and standing within the club. And it goes without saying that we wish Garry all the very best for the future and thank him for his tremendous service, not only as a player over the last decade, but also as our manager. He will always have a warm welcome at this football club. We hope to appoint a replacement as soon as possible.’’ Swansea finished eighth in the Premier League last season with a record 56 points. Seems a very strange decision. Yes they going through a bad patch but think they hit the panic button early When you look at how small a club they are compared to Everton, they are only 8 pts behind us, and 1pt behind Chelsea. So why is there no pressure on Mourinho, or Martinez? Will Rodgers return?
