Conor Grant fired Doncaster into the FA Cup third round on Sunday afternoon - at the expense of his Everton Under-21s colleague Ryan Ledson. The midfielder, whose loan spell at the Keepmoat was last week extended until beginning of January, scored a brace in Rovers’ 3-1 away victory at Cambridge United. The visitors were trailing 1-0 when Grant hammered in a low strike to draw Doncaster back level moments into the second half. His second, just before the hour mark, was a fine left-footed curler, whipped into the top corner from outside the area. After his match-winning contribution, Grant said afterwards that he hoped Rovers avoid a meeting with parent club Everton in the next stage of the competition. “I don’t want that,” grinned the 20-year-old. “I don’t think I’d be allowed to play but I don’t want that. “We take whoever we get. If we get a big one, we get a big one. We just want to progress. “I wouldn’t mind Liverpool but I’ll take any game.” Grant was in direct opposition to fellow Blues midfielder Ryan Ledson, who was booked before being substituted on 78 minutes. Felipe Mattioni missed the game for Doncaster due to a calf injury sustained a week earlier against Coventry City. Meanwhile, Luke Garbutt was an unused substitute as manager-less Fulham crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in the Championship. David Henen and Francisco Junior both had free weekends with Fleetwood Town and Wigan Athletic both already eliminated from the FA Cup. Profile Page
