Arouna Kone is the featured player in Saturday’s special retro edition of the matchday programme. As part of the Club’s dedicated Retro Day fixture, the programme has been given an infusion of the 80s, with several of our leading players from that era adorning the cover.Kone, meanwhile, has been a fine form of late, forming a useful partnership with Romelu Lukaku that is also getting the best out of the Belgian. Both frontmen have been among the goals, with the Ivorian netting a hat-trick against Sunderland in Everton’s previous Goodison Park outing, while Lukaku struck the equaliser in the 1-1 draw at West Ham prior to the international break. And Kone explains that the relationship between the pair goes far beyond on the pitch. “Rom is my friend,” he tells the programme. “We play well together on the pitch and off it we speak a lot. I try to help him become the best striker he can be. I think Rom has a great future in front of him. “I enjoy playing with him. He has a little bit of a different profile to me in terms of being a striker. Rom tends to look for the space more while I like to have the ball and look for a pass. I think our differences work well together.” Joining Kone in Saturday’s issue is Daniel Amokachi, who recalls his time as a Premier League Toffee, while cricketer – and Aston Villa fan - Ian Bell forms part of our thorough guide to our opponents. Kieran Dowell is delighted to be back after injury, while Joe Parkinson tells a few tales of old mates in our ‘My Teammates’ feature. Priced at £3.50, the matchday programme is available around the ground. Don’t forget you can also purchase a digital version. For more information, click here.

Graeme Jones expects a well-organised Aston Villa to visit Goodison Park on Saturday after noticing shoots of improvements during Remi Garde’s first game in charge. The Everton assistant boss, along with Roberto Martinez, watched from the stands at Villa Park as the Frenchman started his rein with a hard-fought scoreless draw against Manchester City last time out.Jones believes Everton’s attackers will need to be on top form this weekend after spotting more resilience in defence from the Premier League’s bottom club a fortnight ago. “I think [Garde’s] team selection was impressive against Manchester City,” Jones said about his scouting report. “He made good decisions and the result showed that. “They earned that [draw], especially on the back of Manchester City winning in Seville. It was a big result [for City] and everybody felt Aston Villa were going to struggle. “Aston Villa were really competitive in the game. They were well-organised, in the short period of time from the Tottenham game on the Monday to the City game on the Sunday. “They looked like they had some sort of style in them.” Aston Villa currently prop up the Premier League table, after losing nine of their 12 fixtures so far this term. Jones continued: “People in the game speak well about Remi Garde, so I would expect that in the last two weeks during the international break he would have got some work done.”

Is Jones trying to convince us that the team that are propping the league up in last place are going to be a difficult opponent because I don't want to hear it as hear enough of that from our manager.

Is Jones trying to convince us that the team that are propping the league up in last place are going to be a difficult opponent because I don't want to hear it as hear enough of that from our manager. They do it every match. We should be beating Villa at home in their current form without a slightest concern.
