Tyias Delighted To Be BackTyias Browning thanked Everton’s medical staff after taking another key step on the road to recovery from a long-term knee injury. In the last four days, the 22-year-old defender has made 45-minute appearances for David Unsworth’s Under-23s against Norwich City in the Premier League Cup and Blackpool in the Checkatrade Trophy. The Liverpool-born Academy graduate, who made his senior debut in the Merseyside derby at Anfield in September 2014, spent almost a full year on the sidelines and insists he is now taking one day at a time as he steps up his return to action. “My knee feels good. I feel a little bit stiff but it’s brilliant to get some minutes,” Browning told evertontv. “It’s been a really tough time, but I feel like I’m coming out the other end now and it’s a good feeling to be back out on the pitch playing football. “[David Unsworth] has been quite cautious with me at the moment, because I’ve had so long out - but he’s happy that I’m back and he wants me to push on from here. “I’m not too sure how far away I am away from full match fitness. I’ve got a lot of football to play with Under-23s and a lot to catch up on - I’m just taking it one step at a time. I’ve had a lot of help from the Club and rehab has gone really well, so now it’s just about getting the minutes under my belt. “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions. The physios have kept me going along the way, kept me confident and looked after me very well. Obviously, I have to give a big thank you to them. They couldn’t wait to get rid of me, so I’m sure they’re pleased I’m back out playing as well!” Browning has also had the opportunity to train under Ronald Koeman and his coaching staff for the very first time in recent weeks. He added: “The new manager and staff have been great. They’ve been challenging and they demand high standards from everyone. I know I’ve got a lot to work on and a lot to prove to them. “It’s up to me to show the manager and his staff now what I’m capable of and take the opportunities that come my way. “We’ve got really good defenders here. I’m learning a lot [from Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams and Ramiro Funes Mori], they’ve helped me a lot throughout the injury and since I’ve been back. Obviously, my eventual aim has to be to start pushing them and challenging for their places in the team. “My focus now is to just start playing week-in and week-out, whether that is for the Under-23s or pushing towards the first team.”
