Roberto Martinez has warned that a rejuvenated Sunderland will visit Goodison Park on Sunday. The Black Cats had to wait until 25 October for their first win of the season, but that came over their North East rivals Newcastle United. It handed Sam Allardyce his first victory as boss and, incredibly, continued a recent pattern that has now seen four successive Sunderland managers enjoy a Tyneside derby triumph in their second match in charge. Traditionally, Sunderland have then gone on to lose their very next fixture but Martinez is still wary of a side showing renewed confidence. “The stats are there to be broken so I'd probably prefer if it was the other way round!" smiled Martinez. "But I don’t really think you can take too much from those stats. “We know the strengths of this Sunderland side and they are starting to understand a new way of playing and how to get positive results. “The reaction of having a new manager was very strong straightaway against West Brom, even though they didn’t get the result (Sunderland lost 1-0). But then, against Newcastle, anything that you could ask for in a performance – from the clean sheet, to the intensity, and scoring three goals – was there. We know we are going to be facing a team in a good moment of form.” But after bouncing back from two straight league defeats by progressing to the Capital One Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Norwich City in midweek, Martinez wants his side to carry on their own good momentum into Sunday’s clash. “We respect immensely the opposition but we need to push ourselves and get back to enjoying our football,” he added. “We are looking at our own situation and we want the feeling that we enjoyed on Tuesday night to carry on into the league. “It has been a demanding start to the season but we are looking forward to the next nine games and making sure we are as good as we can and try to replicate the good things that we have shown in these first 10 fixtures.”

Lol, haha, lol No he cant Everything is falling into plan in terms of the League Cup. You couldn't have imagined so many teams would drop out last round, but he has to start being determined to win it. This match against Sunderland 'should' be a match Everton would expect to win, so why couldn't we have taken the same approach selection wise on Sunday, and fielded a much stronger team on Tuesday? A cup is only a short term fix though. Every season I go into the first game with dreams of winning the league, yet the club constantly talk about 'possibly' reaching top 4. I feel our own self belief is not high enough. Got no chance of beating City and Shlop must fancy chances himself

A reporter tells him that the last 4 times Sunderland have won a derby they lost the next match and he replies that stats are there to be broken.
