Roberto Martinez says he will remember Howard Kendall as a ‘very inspirational figure’ after learning about the sad passing of Everton’s greatest ever manager.Martinez personally invited Kendall to spend time with him at Finch Farm shortly after taking up the reins at Club in the summer of 2013. At the time, the Toffees chief explained how it was important to recognise and embrace the legacy left by Everton greats, such as Kendall. And he paid tribute to Everton Giant after learning of his passing. He said: ”As you can imagine, it is a real shock in the manner that it happened. When you reflect, it is a moment to celebrate. The passing is a really, really sad moment for his family and we send them our thoughts." "Howard Kendall is such an iconic footballer of our football club and then what he achieved as a manager will always be an inspiration to anyone who has the opportunity and the privilege to manage our football club. He deserves an incredible amount of respect and a big thank you for putting Everton to the level he put us and providing an inspiration for the future." Martinez added that Kendall had set the standards during his time as a player and manager at Goodison. He added: “You look at the relationship with the Club, he set really high standards, created special memories and he brought that belief that anything could be achieved with Everton. “In the 1980s, he put Everton on the highest step in European football."

RIP. I think he liked a tipple so not surprised it was a heart attack but you have to enjoy life and that's what he did. excellent manager in the 80's and will be sorely missed. What do you think about the petition for a statue?
