Didn't we try to buy Delph at one point? I don't think it's a case of getting in ahead of Barkley though. Players like Gerrard, Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, and Lampard will disappear after this world cup and it strikes me that the selectors are more concerned about giving them their final bow than they are about the team. It's this that is stopping the new generation. If Delph is good enough then they should both be in. Not some occasion greedy old school player because the money in football tells football what they can and can't do. We were looking at him 4 years ago but they wanted too much money. Villa signed him for 6m (according to the net) in 2009 but what has he done other than get sent back to Leeds on loan? He might be playing well this season, but we didn't have the cash to be spending that amount on an investment for the future, and 4 years is one hell of a long time to wait for a player to start playing well. As for playing for England, neither player for me should be anywhere near the England team yet. What ever happened to proving yourself over time to be the best, as opposed to having a few good games and getting in? The kneejerk call ups from Hodgson have me shaking my head sometimes.

The fear factor thing is an interesting question, and it's good to read what other fans think about us. The top 4 teams often win because the other teams are afraid of them so it gives them an edge before the game even starts. If they score first, the opposition often give up. We could do with a little of that.

I like some of the comments above from the Aston Villa fans. I'm also surprised at just how many fans don't like Liverpool, but it's probably due to their dominance in the last century. Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the English game, and it's important to remember they were one of the 12 founders of the English football league and without them we might not have the game we have today. These big money teams weren't even twinkles in the games bollocks back then. 2-2
