Swansea 2 - 0 Newcastle Swansea see off 10-man Newcastle thanks to second goal from André AyewHome team scorersBafetimbi Gomis 9 Andre Ayew 52 Bafe Gomis scores Swansea City’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League at the Liberty Stadium. Swansea City continued where they left off last season – make that last week – with Bafetimbi Gomis scoring his seventh goal in his past eight Premier League appearances and André Ayew repeating his scoring debut at Chelsea on opening day, to see off a Newcastle United team who were down to 10 men for most of the match after Daryl Janmaat’s senseless sending off. Newcastle were unchanged from their 2-2 draw at home to Southampton; Swansea made one enforced change to the starting lineup used in gaining a more impressive point at Stamford Bridge – Jack Cork replacing the injured Ki Sung-Yeung in midfield. The Swans had already tested Tim Krul, with a shot from Gylfi Sigurdsson, before they took the lead in the ninth minute, when Wayne Shelvey’s short through pass found Gomis, unattended on the 18-yard line, and the French striker rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net, left footed, from near the penalty spot. Newcastle responded with a meaty drive from Gabriel Obertan that demanded Lukasz Fabianski’s careful attention and, after an assertive start, the Swans lost momentum midway through the first half. However the complexion of the game changed in the 41st minute, when Janmaat, who had already been booked, received his second yellow card and was sent off for pulling back Jefferson Montero by his arm and shirt. Two minutes later, Montero cut in from the left, past two defenders, before shooting against Krul’s right-hand upright with the keeper beaten. Swansea had the initiative back against 10 men and, early in the second half, Sigurdsson was close to doubling their advantage when the Icelander rattled the crossbar from the edge of the D. The second goal was delayed only until the 52nd minute, when Montero skinned Fabricio Coloccini on the left before delivering an inviting cross to the near post, where Ayew rose to head firmly past Krul. Steve McClaren immediately took off his sole striker, Papiss Cissé, and went into damage-limitation mode. Guardian
