Everton and Newcastle are plotting January transfer window raids for CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia.
The English Premier League pair have sent scouts to check on the 25-year-old on a regular basis and are ready to make an offer for the Ivory Coast international when the transfer window swings open again at the start of 2014.
Everton managed to snaffle up Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer, but the striker is only on loan at Goodison Park, with little chance the Toffees can make the deal permanent.
Newcastle meanwhile were unable to strengthen their attacking department to manager Alan Pardew's satisfaction, even if Loic Remy did land from QPR on loan. The Magpies very publicly missed out on Lyon hitman Bafetimbi Gomis and retain their desire to sign another goalscorer.
