‘I am proud and happy to remain in Germany’ Schalke have signed the Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic until 2019.The German club, currently fifth in the Bundesliga and managed by Roberto Di Matteo, made the announcement on their website the day after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid. “Good news for the Royal Blues: Schalke have activated the transfer clause with Nastasic and signed a deal to keep him in Gelsenkirchen until the 30 June 2019,” they said. The defender initially moved on loan from Manchester City at the start of 2015 and has played every minute in the Bundesliga since. “I am proud and happy to remain at Schalke,” said the 21-year-old. “From day one, I was immediately a part of the team. In the future I’d like to help the team achieve our goals.” The centre-half was a product of the Partizan Belgrade youth academy and was signed by City in August 2012 where he won the Premier League and FA Cup. He has been capped 17 times for Serbia. Guardian
