Roberto Martinez says he is ‘excited’ at the prospect of facing Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League round of 16. The Blues were pitted against the Ukrainian league leaders at Friday’s draw at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon. In the group stage, Dynamo Kyiv won five of their six fixtures to finish at the summit of Group J. They then beat French outfit Guingamp 4-3 over two legs in the round of 32. “It’s what we expected – a tough team,” Martinez said on Friday afternoon. “It’s a draw that we are very excited about. “Dynamo Kyiv are a top team in terms of the way they are unbeaten in their domestic league. They are ahead of teams like Shakhtar and Dnipro. “They have got some well-known players like Andriy Yarmolenko, Jeremain Lens and Younès Belhanda “I know Dynamo Kyiv are a side that we are not used to seeing - unlike Spainish or Italian sides which we are a bit more used to watching on a weekly basis - but believe me, they are a strong side.” Goodison Park hosts the first leg on Thursday 12 March, with the return meeting taking place seven days later. Martinez admits he would have preferred the second leg to be on English soil - but Everton are undefeated on the continent in the Europa League so far this season. Roberto Martinez’s charges won in Wolfsburg (2-0) and Young Boys (4-1), and also drew in Krasnodar (1-1) and Lille (0-0). Martinez added: “In the draw you always prefer to play at home in the second leg and unfortunately that is not going to be the case and there is nothing we can do in that respect. “We enjoyed following the draw but now the focus is Arsenal.”
