1) Romelu Lukaku has still got the scoring touch.Four days after missing a hatful of chances against Leicester and having his headed effort taken off him for what went down as a Matthew Upon own goal, the big Belgian was back to his best.
With a trip to the Emirates Stadium looming on Sunday and a tight hamstring early in the second half, the Blues £28million man didn't get the chance to become the club's first player to score two European hat-tricks - but it was still a hugely rewarding night's work for him before he was taken off as a precautionary measure for Arouna Kone.
As well as a clinically taken second, the 21-year-old showed the Blues that they do have a viable alternative to Leighton Baines on spot kicks after compatriot Kevin Mirallas' controversial miss against West Brom.
It was a welcome relief for Lukaku whose last act in a Chelsea shirt was a woeful effort from 12 yards out to lose the Uefa Super Cup to Bayern Munich in 2013.
2) Darron Gibson gives Everton something different in midfield.The fit-again Irish international admitted he feared his career might be over earlier this season but he followed up an impressive personal cameo against Leicester with another smart display. The former Manchester United man picked out Kevin Mirallas for the Blues third goal with a sumptuous through ball that was inch perfect.
Having seen Roberto Martinez sign James McCarthy, Gareth Barry and Muhamed Besic in his position it can't have been easy for him stuck on the sidelines for long periods.
3) Tim Howard's luck needs to change.After a couple of individual errors from the American at the weekend, his manager came out strongly to back the World Cup star as his number one.
The 35-year-old was left flat footed on the rebound that saw Young Boys ahead for the second week running but fortunately it didn't matter as his team came back strongly.
A lot was made of it when Martinez left out Howard for the Blues last trip to the Emirates in an FA Cup quarter final just under a year ago. He'll be expected to get the nod this time and could do with a repeat performance of his display there in the Premier League last term.
4) Luke Garbutt loves the European nights.Thrown in at the deep end for Wolfsburg away and a substitute against Young Boys last week, the understudy left-back has been assured when called upon. Playing from the start tonight, he played in a terrific cross for Lukaku's cross and showed composure beyond his tender years which is more than can be said for Arouna Kone who continues to misfire. His move from Wigan hasn't worked out.
5) News travels fast in the digital age.Back when Evertonians had to endure great escapes from relegation on the last day of the 1994 and 1998 Premier League seasons, there were nervous waits around transistor radios.
Finding out there was no second 'Miracle of Istanbul' a decade on for neighbours Liverpool, probably via the medium of Twitter, was greeted with the biggest roar Goodison has heard for a long time just moments after Dejan Lovren had missed on a different continent.
Equally noisy were Young Boys fans who were terrific throughout.
It all means that Everton were the Premier League's only winners in Europe this week with Tottenham going out and both Arsenal and Manchester City suffering Champions League setbacks on their own turf.
If only they could all be European games for the Blues.
