Who is last on Match of the Day?
It’s a familiar gripe - with fans of every team complaining that they are treated more harshly by the Beeb than their rivals.
But this chart highlights a few unexpected trends.
Table-topping Chelsea, as expected, feature first more than any other side - seven times so far, and haven’t filled the midnight graveyard slot once.
Manchester City are second in prime billing with five appearances, but surprisingly QPR are next with four first-time slots, perhaps a legacy of the number of goals which figure in their matches!
Neither Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal have featured last on Match of the Day, while Liverpool have been on last three times and Everton once.
In fact Liverpool supporters have more often had to wait longer than Everton fans to watch highlights of their side on Match of the Day this season.
Show presenter Gary Lineker has gone on record to describe the 1986 Everton team as the best he ever played for, and he does have a say in the running order ....
Liverpool currently sit 12 points above rivals Everton in the Premier League table, but the Toffees have been on screen first on two occasions, while the Reds have been at the top of the pile just once.
Nevertheless, Everton failed to win in both of the games they were involved which Match of the Day selected first for back-to-back weeks, with the Blues’ 6-3 defeat against table-toppers Chelsea and 2-2 draw with Arsenal the selections.
The graphic also stated that Everton and Liverpool have both been on second two times apiece, while Roberto Martinez’s men have been third on one less occasion compared to the Reds.
Both teams kick-off at 3pm this Saturday afternoon so will feature on Match of the Day tonight, but who will be on first?
We’ll know at 10.30pm tonight! Or possibly by five o’clock if either side is involved in a grim goalless draw!
