Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of midfielder Jordon Mutch from Queens Park Rangers on a four-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £4.75m.The 23-year-old, who only moved to QPR from Cardiff City in the summer, will be joined at Selhurst Park by the former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi, who has signed for Alan Pardew’s side on a free transfer. Mutch has found opportunities limited at Rangers despite impressing in the top flight with the Welsh club last season. He trained with Palace on Thursday, and could feature in Saturday’s game against Everton at Selhurst Park. Palace’s squad strengthening before next week’s deadline is expected to continue with the arrival of Pape Souaré from Lille, while negotiations continue with Manchester United to make Wilfried Zaha’s loan spell back at the club permanent. Souaré was first mooted as a potential signing last month but, having undertaken a medical in Equatorial Guinea, will now complete a £3.4m move from Lille following Senegal’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations at the hands of Algeria on Tuesday. Good signing for Palace.
I liked the look of him last year.

Good signing for Palace. I liked the look of him last year. We were after him but the chances of a deal with Cardiff were zero after Moody and the fiasco over us sneaking a peak at their team sheet. As far as I can remember, QPR paid around £6m and we've paid somewhere between £4.5m - £5.75, depending on whose report you believe. Palace are building strength in depth ( at last) and with Sanogo on loan plus Ameobi on a short term deal plus Papa Soaure ( medical passed today I believe) filling our long term vacancy at Left Back, we've done pretty well at the cost of under £10m....which doesn't include the £4m for Alan Pardew. Still room for a Deadline Day swoop or the permenant signing of Zaha. Looking good at Selhurst. We might have had some better players in the past but I've never known such a strong squad here before.

Crystal Palace have added to their attacking options with the signing of former Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi.
The Nigerian international, 33, has signed a short term contract until the end of the season.
He spent 14 years at Newcastle netting 79 goals in 397 appearances.
Ameobi told the Official Palace website: "I'm very excited to be here, I wanted to get back in the Premier League and having worked with the manager before it's been great to come back and hopefully help us avoid the relegation battle,"
"I had a couple of other clubs interested but I think my relationship with Alan [Pardew] and how much I enjoyed working with him was one of the big factor in my decision.
"He instils confidence in players and he always seems to get the best out of them, certainly he did that at Newcastle and hopefully he can do that for me and the rest of the lads here."
Ameobi will wear the number 23 shirt in Alan Pardew's squad for the remainder of the Premier League season.
At 33 he's the same age as Andy Johnson who finished his 6months with us recently but unlike AJ, Ameobi hasn't suffered from long term injuries. Pardew has given us ample cover up front with this move, his problem is going to be keeping a lot of talented players happy...a cup run helps.

Why on earth are clubs like Palace and West Brom buying very good players for very reasonable prices while Martinez tells us the January window is overpriced? I smell a mild does of utter bollox. It has to be Kenwright telling him he isn't getting any more money to spend.
