Wages of £50,000 a week look to be too expensive for Villa
Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Scott Sinclair are likely to hinge on whether Manchester City will reduce the £2.5m price for the winger. Paul Lambert is keen to add another attacking option to a Villa team who have struggled to create and score goals but he may find it difficult to get his hands on the funds to make the deal happen. Finances are tight at Villa and with Sinclair earning £50,000 a week at City, the overall package could be deemed too expensive. Sinclair was signed from Swansea for £6.2m in 2012 and has started only three games in all competitions, yet City are not keen on a loan deal and want to recoup as much as possible for a player who is 25. While the futures of Fabian Delph and Ron Vlaar remain up in the air – both players are out of contract at the end of the season and attracting plenty of interest – there is at least some good news for Villa fans in the shape of confirmation from Christian Benteke’s agent that the Belgium international will not be leaving this month. Benteke has been linked with other Premier League clubs but Kismet Eris, the player’s representative, met Tom Fox, the Villa chief executive, and said that there was no desire on anyone’s part for the striker to leave in this window. “I came to Birmingham recently to chat with Christian and I met also with Tom Fox, and with this I can say that there’s nothing going to be happening with Christian in January. He will be staying at Villa. As far as I know from my discussion with Tom Fox, Villa feel the same way.” by Stuart James / Guardian
