Everton have announced they will play away friendlies against Austria Vienna, Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers as part of the Club’s pre-season schedule ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.
The Blues will travel to the Austrian capital on Sunday 14 July to face the Austrian champions (kick-off to be confirmed) before returning to England to face League Two Accrington at the Storefirst Stadium on Wednesday 17 July (7.45pm kick-off) and their Lancashire neighbours Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday 27 July (2pm kick-off).
Austria Vienna finished five points above second-placed Red Bull Salzburg to clinch a first domestic title since 2006 last month – securing their qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Despite being Everton’s first ever contest against Austria Vienna, the friendly evokes memories of 1985 when the Blues recorded one of their most glorious triumphs by beating their hosts’ city rivals Rapid Vienna 3-1 to lift the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
Generali ArenaAustria Vienna’s Generali Arena – formerly known as the Franz Horr Stadium – was renovated in 2008 and holds a capacity of just over 13,000.
Accrington will host Everton in a friendly to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the very first Football League fixture which was played between the two clubs in 1888.
Stanley, who last month appointed former Blue James Beattie as their new manager, finished 2012/13 in 18th position in League Two, three points above the relegation zone.
Blackburn also recently announced a new permanent boss, with Gary Bowyer handed the task of leading the club back into the Premier League.
After suffering relegation from the top flight in May 2012, last season Rovers endured a turbulent campaign and finished in a disappointing 17th position in the Championship.
The confirmation of these games comes after it was announced last week that Everton will face Juventus in San Francisco on 31 July as part of the the International Champions Cup.
The Blues’ Stateside tour also includes a game against either LA Galaxy or Real Madrid in Los Angeles on 3 August and a third stop-off in Miami on either 6 or 7 August where the opponents will be one of Chelsea, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Valencia.
Ticket information of the above fixtures will be announced in due course.
