Neil Warnock has become the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season after being dismissed by Crystal Palace.
The 66-year-old joined the Eagles for a second time in August 2014, following the departure of Tony Pulis.
However Palace's 3-1 defeat at home against Southampton on Boxing Day left them in the relegation zone.
Assistant manager Keith Millen will be in charge for the trip to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
But it is understood that Palace will begin their search for a permanent successor immediately.
A club statement read: "Crystal Palace Football Club can today confirm that Neil Warnock has been relieved of his duties and is no longer first-team manager.
"The club would like to put on record its thanks to Neil for all his hard work and energy over the past four months."
Pulis left 48 hours before the start of the season after guiding Palace to an 11th place finish and being named Premier League manager of the Year.
Warnock won just three of his 16 Premier League games in his second spell in charge, giving a win percentage of 18.8% compared to Pulis's 42.3%.
Before the Sheffield-born manager's appointment on a two-year deal, the club opted not to employ Malky Mackay and Tim Sherwood withdrew after being interviewed . They also spoke to Steve Clarke.
Palace are now looking for a fourth manager in 14 months since Ian Holloway's sacking in October 2013.

#clap# Well done Steve Parish...and I'm not being sarcastic. And, Yes, Bill Kenwright ought to bite the bullet and at least threaten......... I feel a bit sorry for Neil Warnock...no, hang on a mo', WHY do I feel sorry for someone who has earnt as much each month at Palace as I do in a year (at least that but I'm not going to do the maths) and not delivered an end product worthy of the name of Crystal Palace FC.? I like Warnock and he seemed a good choice (from a pretty poor selection of names admittedly) to keep Palace playing in a style similar to that under Pulis and thereby keep us in the Premiership. But his dodgy tactics -not always but far too often -and nonsensical substitutions - again, not always, but always too late - have finally lost him the support of the Board and also a large percentage of Palace supporters. Where now? I know who I want but Jurgan Klinsmann ain't going to be walking out onto the Selhurst Park pitch any time soon..... However, the Managerial Merry-go-round has creaked into motion and who knows who might become available in the next month? Pulis is still 'unemployed'......... it'd be just like Palace, give a bloke a cool £1m...and then take him back.

Shame as I like Neil Warnock.
There is a problem with football management in the Premier League that every year 3 teams are relegated and 3 promoted, and every year managers are sacked because they face the often impossible job of keeping their teams in the league.

Come on Bill, what you waiting for? Do you mean you would have Warnock instead of RM?
