Roberto Martinez expects Steven Naismith to sit out Thursday’s Europa League trip to Wolfsburg after the Scotland striker injured his hamstring in the closing stages of Everton’s 2-1 win over West Ham United. Naismith was stretchered off in the 89th minute and replaced by Christian Atsu. Speaking post-match, Martinez said: “It was really late in the game and probably a little bit of fatigue in the muscles. Steven overstretched his hamstring and we are going to assess it. “He looks as though he has a soft-tissue problem, due to the nature of the mechanics of opening the leg so much in such a late moment of the game when muscles can be fatigued. “We’ll assess him. He’ll probably miss Thursday but I don’t expect him to be out too long.” The Everton boss also revealed that Aiden McGeady missed Saturday’s game after coming down with a sickness bug on Friday evening. Martinez added: “Aiden McGeady picked up a little bug last night [Friday]. He had sickness but should be okay in a couple of days.”
