Seamus Coleman an injury doubt for Everton a week before crucial Scotland clash
Martin O'Neill is hoping that Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy will stay fit for Ireland's clash with Scotland. Martin O'Neill an Roy Keane will be keeping everything crossed this weekend in the hopes that Donegal's Seamus Coleman will be fit to face the Scots in a weeks time. Everton travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday and Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Coleman will have to come through a fitness test to play any part. “Seamus had a little cut to his Achilles tendon against Swansea and he needed some stitches," he said. "We are assessing that. “He couldn’t make it yesterday but I wouldn’t consider it as a real issue. It’s about taking the doctor’s view before the [Sunderland] game and making a decision based on that." Coleman missed last night's 3-0 Europa League win over Lille, a game where James McCarthy was the star of the show. Speaking about McCarthy last night on ITV4, Scotland boss Gordon Strachan said: "I'm glad he peaked a week early." The Republic of Ireland management team will be happy that Darron Gibson saw some game time last night and that Aiden McGeady continued his good form with two assists.
