Everton concluded their pre-season campaign with a thoroughly entertaining contest against Manchester City at Walton Hall Park.
The hosts were narrowly beaten 4-3 on Saturday afternoon as two late strikes from City condemned the Toffees to defeat.
A Martina Piemonte header put Everton in front after 26 minutes, with Nicoline Sorensen coming off the bench to net a brace which put the Blues back in front.
However, two goals in the space of three minutes saw City become eventual winners in the end.
An end-to-end opening half saw Brian Sorensen’s side draw first blood.
Karoline Olesen slipped the ball through to Katrine Veje along the left side. The Denmark international swooped the ball in for Piemonte to nod home into the bottom right corner.
Despite a dominant half from the hosts, City struck level six minutes prior to the interval.
Mary Fowler found a yard of space inside the Blues box and finished into the bottom left corner past Emily Ramsey in the Everton net.
The action intensified in the second half.
City took the lead on 64 minutes with a superb strike. The ball fell to Ruby Mace whose first-time finish arrived in the top right corner past Emily Ramsey.
However, five minutes later Everton struck level.
Excellent hold up play between Aurora Galli and Katja Snoeijs saw the latter slip the ball into substitute Heather Payne who whipped the ball into the near post for Sorensen to tap home in a great move.
Nine minutes later, the Blues regained the lead.
An Everton counter led by Snoeijs saw the Dutch forward slip in Payne in along the right. The Republic of Ireland international went for power as her effort struck off the bar. Sorensen latched onto the rebound to beat Ellie Roebuck and put the Toffees ahead.
The drama continued with City equalising on 86 minutes. After an initial excellent stop from Ramsey on Alanna Kennedy’s shot, Esme Morgan placed the rebound into the bottom corner past the Everton goalkeeper.
Three minutes later, City had the winner.
Former Everton loanee Jess Park slipped the ball into Fowler who tucked the ball in past Ramsey for her second of the afternoon and City's fourth.
Everton's internationalists will now travel away to represent their country before returning to Merseyside and prepare for the opening game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday 1 October.
