Meanwhile, the Blues have been told to stump up £12m should they want Montpellier midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, according to the Daily Express. The 24-year-old is apparently interesting a number of Premier League clubs and Roberto Martinez is said to be one of those monitoring his situation. Stambouli has just one year remaining on his contract but the club’s manager Rolland Courbis has indicated that the won’t allow the player to leave on the cheap. He said: “At a certain time the Stambouli case will upset chairman Louis Nicollin and he could refuse to sell him. He had an agreement to leave, but the season has resumed now," he said. "He will play against Metz and then we will see. "I see Stambouli as a €15m (£12m) player. I’m not trying to advertise Stambouli to sell him, I’d like to keep him." Another reported Everton target could be on the move this summer, according to reports in the Spanish press . Also:Saul Niguez, who plays for Atletico Madrid, is set to be allowed to leave the club on-loan and the 19-year-old is reported to be on Martinez’s radar. The 19-year-old is highly thought of in Spain but needs first team football to continue his development. Source: Echo

Last thing we need is another defensive mid. We're crying out for a playmaker.

Last thing we need is another defensive mid. We're crying out for a playmaker. Agreed. Especially now Barkley has hurt himself. Attack attack attack.

We've needed one for ages. Barkley might well be that person but he's not ready. Mind you, by transfer D Day, if we don't get a replacement then as long as we get a striker in then I'm happy.
