Everton are ready to make a loan bid for Barcelona’s defensive midfielder Alex Song, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Cameroonian Song, 26, joined the Catalan giants from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, but has failed to cement a regular place in the first team during his first two seasons at the club and, with current Barcelona boss Luis Enrique now prepared to send the midfielder out on loan, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez could be set to make a move to add Song to his squad.
Martinez already has a good relationship with Barcelona after bringing young winger Gerard Deulofeu on loan to Goodison Park last season, and with no sign of a loan fee apparently being required to bring the former Arsenal man to Merseyside, it would appear that this particular signing would be extremely favourable for the Spaniard.
However, with Darron Gibson, Gareth Barry, James McCarthy, Muhamed Besic, Ross Barkley and Leon Osman all capable of playing in Song’s favoured midfield position, and potential interest from fellow Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, it remains to be seen whether this rumour has any truth to it.
