Everton have confirmed that both Luke Garbutt and Seamus Coleman will miss the rest of pre-season with hamstring injuries.  Coleman picked up his injury during the first pre-season game of the summer against Tranmere last month and has not played since. Garbutt meanwhile strained his hamstring against Leicester in Bangkok on July 27 and has been rested as a precaution. Both now will miss the next two friendlies against Celta Vigo on Wednesday and SC Paderborn at the weekend. They both must also be considered doubts for the season opener against Leicester. Pre-seaon is such an important time for players so to miss out can really set them back when the campaign starts for real. Everton are right to treat both players with caution but once fit it may take them a while to really reach full match sharpness. It may well be that we don't see the best of both Coleman and Garbutt until the autumn. On a more positive note, new signing Muhamed Besic is set to start against Celta Vigo after impressing from the bench against Porto. Ross Barkley will also get some game time while Darron Gibson will also be eased back into action after being rested for the Porto game. Speaking ahead of both matches, Roberto Martinez said: "We expect Ross and Mo to play a bigger part in this game and the same with every other player. Some of the players will start looking at the 90-minute mark and others will just try to increase the intensity during the time they are on the pitch. "With Darron Gibson it's very much a case of giving him the right amount of work from now until the start of the season. "If he's not involved against Celta Vigo, he'll be involved against Paderborn at the weekend, so it's not a real issue. "Seamus Coleman and Luke Garbutt are different. They are recovering from soft tissue problems and I wouldn't expect either of them to be fit for the next two games." |
