Roberto Martinez says Darron Gibson was rested against FC Porto and that Seamus Coleman could be back for the trip to SC Paderborn.
Gibson has played both pre-season games since returning from knee surgery but was afforded a break for Sunday's clash at Goodison Park.
Coleman injured a hamstring against Tranmere earlier this month and hasn't featured since.
Martinez explained: "Darron Gibson has been working a lot in the last few days and we felt that we were running a risk with him, so he needed an extra day to recover and he will be involved on Wednesday.
"Sometimes it's about giving players the right doses of work and Darron's not got a problem at all - it's just about making sure we don't take unnecessary risks with him."
Coleman is in line to feature in the final pre-season game in Germany next weekend.
"Seamus will be ready for the Germany trip and he should be involved in that game," Martinez added. "If not, we'll have a behind closed doors game the following week and we would expect him to be ready for the start of the season."
