Everton Football Club is delighted to announce the permanent transfer of Romelu Lukaku. The 21-year-old striker, who spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, rejoins the Blues for a Club record transfer fee of £28million on a five-year contract. Lukaku made 33 appearances and scored 16 goals during his initial spell on Merseyside and quickly made himself a favourite among Evertonians. An established Belgian international with 32 caps, Lukaku shot to prominence while a teenager at Anderlecht before earning a move to the Premier League with Chelsea in 2011. A loan spell at West Bromwich Albion followed 12 months later before he arrived at Everton during the dramatic final minutes of the August 2013 transfer window. Lukaku said: “I am really excited about rejoining Everton. I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans. I can’t wait to get started again and I’m looking forward to a successful season.” Chairman Bill Kenwright commented: “Romelu was a massive part of the jigsaw for Roberto and Everton and nobody is more pleased than me that an 11-month quest ended at lunchtime today, thanks hugely to the efforts of all parties, including Rom, his representative, Chelsea and, of course, Roberto.” Martinez added: "Welcoming Romelu Lukaku back to Everton on a permanent basis is the news that all Evertonians wanted to hear. "We know that Romelu is still a young man and the potential that he has is quite unique, and we are desperate to see him enjoying his football and to watch him grow as footballer in the years to come. "The arrival of Rom is more than just a signing, it's the fruition of a lot of hard work to get the player we wanted. This is a big moment for Everton's history and the perfect way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season.” Lukaku, who will wear the number 10 shirt, will now return home to Belgium for the next few days but will be back at Goodison Park on Sunday ahead of Leon Osman’s testimonial.

Everton skipper Phil Jagielka has revealed how players and staff have been working tirelessly to ensure the permanent return of Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker, who scored 16 goals during a loan spell with the Blues last season, became the Club’s record signing on Wednesday after completing a move from Chelsea.
Jagielka has spoken of his delight that the 21-year-old hitman has chosen Everton over a host of other interested clubs – and believes the Belgian came to realise he had found a true home on the Blue half of Merseyside.
“It was our job as players, staff and everyone to convince him that, if there was a chance he was going to leave Chelsea, that this would be a perfect fit - and it seems that we’ve done a pretty good job!” Jagielka exclusively told evertontv. “For him to choose us over teams who were in the Champions League is a massive coup. But then we do pride ourselves on how players feel when they come here.
“It does make a difference when you come to a club that fits and you get on really well with the players, the staff and the fans.
“He had that little relationship with the fans – you saw the way Rom celebrated his goals and things like that last season, he really enjoyed his time here.”
Jagielka has also backed Lukaku to pick up where he left off at the end of last term and says he can’t wait to see the forward in action again.
“It feels like a perfect fit for him," he continued. "I’d say this time it’ll be easy for him to bed in - though he scored on his debut last year, so it didn’t take him too long.
“Everyone can see his attributes - he’s a big boy and he puts himself around. But it’s just his hunger for goals that is his biggest strength.
“To have that sort of player on the pitch, who also has the ability to do it - and especially in big games - is a massive asset to have.
“He scored a lot of our goals last season and if we can get a few people chipping in with a few more and keep producing the sort of football we did last season, Rom will get a few more as well.”
