Everton defender Matthew Pennington has joined Championship club Hull City on loan for the 2019/20 season. The Academy graduate - who has made nine first-team appearances for the Blues - spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Ipswich Town. He played 31 matches for the Portman Road side and scored one goal. Pennington will link up with fellow Everton player Josh Bowler, who joined Hull on loan last month.

Matthew Pennington joined Hull City on loan in a bid for more playing time after finding himself on the periphery at Everton, but the 25-year-old has struggled for opportunities with the Tigers and now finds his career at a crossroads.
He’s not the only Everton player struggling out on loan either, with Muhamed Besic (Sheffield United), Kieran Dowell (Derby) and Joao Virginia (Reading) having been short of minutes this season.
Pennington has made just three appearances for Hull this season, only one of which has come in the Championship, amassing a total of 197 minutes of football. Reece Burke and Jordy de Wijs have been preferred at centre-back while Eric Lichaj has been a regular at right-back
Pennington was an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Reading (August 10), and was left out of the matchday in the 1-1 draw with Brentford (August 17), 1-0 defeat to Blackburn (August 20) & 3-1 defeat to Bristol City (August 24).

Matthew Pennington might have played his final game in Everton colours with the Hull City loanee admitting that a permanent departure from Goodison Park is at the forefront of his plans this summer, speaking to Hull Live.
At the age of 25, a centre-half who rose through the ranks on the blue half of Merseyside is understandably keen to finally put down his roots.
Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas and Phil Jagielka were still Everton players the last time Pennington donned the famous blue shirt in a Premier League match, all the way back in 2017. And he has now spent each of the last three seasons out on loan, joining Hull last year after spells at Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
