Claudia Walker may have played only 15 minutes of Everton Ladies’ pre-season friendly with Aston Villa but that was plenty to get her back on track. The Blue Girls striker’s appearance on Saturday was her first in nine months after recovering from a serious hamstring injury sustained in a training match in December. Walker admits it has been a long road back to fitness but with the support of Ladies physio Faye Suddart keeping her going, the forward reveals how, slowly but surely, she worked herself back to her return to the football pitch. “It has been a long road back but it has felt shorter than I expected,” Walker told evertontv. “At the time, I thought nine months sounded a very long period to be out for but it has felt like it has flown by. “It never occurred to me how long I would be out when the injury happened. I didn’t think it would be that bad and I remember hobbling around my house thinking I was going to be okay. I wasn’t initially told how long I would be out, I just had to see how it was going. I have just taken each week as it has come and kept progressing as much as I can. “You struggle a bit at the start and I think that was the worst time for me. I was on crutches and in a leg brace so I couldn’t really move much. “It was difficult but I had the likes of Aaron [Little, Ladies General Manager], Andy [Spence], my two best friends Kirstie Levell and Chaney Boye-Hlorkah, and the rest of teammates helping me through it. They all kept me going throughout the past nine months. “But I have to say thank you to Faye for everything she has done. She has been there every step of the way. If I have had a bad day, she has been there to pick me back up. I’ve actually missed her a little bit now I am back with the rest of the squad!”
