Kieran Dowell set up Nottingham Forest’s opener as his loan side made it three wins from four Championship matches by beating Middlesbrough at the City Ground. Barrie McKay latched on to Dowell’s through ball in the 16th minute to slot past goalkeeper Darren Randolph, before a Daryl Murphy penalty 11 minutes from time put Forest in control. Ben Gibson stabbed in from a corner to pull one back for Boro on 83 minutes but the hosts held on to move up to fourth in the table. Dowell, who was making his fifth appearance for Mark Warburton’s side, played the full 90 minutes. It wasn’t such a happy weekend for defenders Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway as Sunderland slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Leeds United. Samuel Saiz’s fourth goal in four games gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break and Stuart Dallas brilliantly headed home in the 76th minute to ensure Leeds maintained their unbeaten start. Browning managed the full 90 minutes at the Stadium of Light but Galloway was replaced by Adam Matthews with 55 minutes played. Matthew Pennington, on loan at Leeds, sat out the game due to an ankle injury. Elsewhere in the second tier, Joe Williams played the full 90 minutes for Barnsley but couldn’t prevent them losing 1-0 away at Sheffield United in a fixture that saw both teams finish with 10 men, while Antonee Robinson was an unused substitute for Bolton’s 2-1 home defeat against Derby County. The weekend’s results mean Leeds are up to fifth in the table, a place and a point behind Forest, Sunderland are 12th, Barnsley 20th and Bolton two places further back in 22nd. Finally, in Belgium, Henry Onyekuru played the entire match against Sint-Truiden but saw Anderlecht surprisingly slip to a second league defeat in succession. The reigning Jupiler Pro League champions took an 18th-minute lead through midfielder Massimo Bruno at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock but an eventual 3-2 loss leaves them 10th in the standings after four matches.
