Sandro A Doubt For HajdukRonald Koeman says he will wait until the morning of the match before making a final call on Sandro Ramirez’s fitness for Everton’s Europa League play-off clash with Hajduk Split. The Blues’ Spanish attacker played 77 minutes of the opening-day Premier League victory over Stoke before being receiving a blow to his heel and being replaced by Kevin Mirallas. Sandro did not participate in training at Finch Farm on Wednesday but Koeman will give his new signing from Malaga every opportunity to recover in time for the visit of Hajduk on Thursday night. “Sandro got a knock on his heel last Saturday and we need to wait until tomorrow [Thursday] to see if he will be available,” Koeman told evertontv. “He did not train on Wednesday and if it is not better, he will not play. It is not really serious, the question is more yes or no for tomorrow - but, normally, there will be no question for Monday’s game against Manchester City.” Everton welcome Hajduk to Goodison for the first-leg of the European tie, with the return meeting in Split next Thursday. And Koeman has left no stone unturned in preparation for his side’s encounters with the Croats, with a place in the Europa League group stage the prize for the winners. “We know a lot about them,” said Koeman. “Erwin (Koeman’s assistant and brother) watched their game away to Dinamo Zagreb (which Hajduk lost 3-1 on August 6). “We have video of them. They do not have any secrets from us and we do not have any from them. “We know they are physically strong at the back. “The big striker (former Portsmouth and Leicester frontman Marko Futacs) who makes a difference to the team is not playing. “They have some good midfield players. We watched their home game against Brondby in the last round, as well. “We know we will need to be at our best to get a result and, at least, a clean sheet at home – to give ourselves the best chance to reach the group stages.” Koeman also revealed midfielder James McCarthy remains unavailable for selection after suffering a “knock” to his knee in training. He otherwise reported a clean bill of health for what will be the Blues’ third European match this term. “I will try to pick the best side to start the game,” he added. “The team is ready for tomorrow.” Everton FC

Koeman: Goodison Factor Can Be KeyBlues boss outlines his hopes for first leg of Europa League play-off against Hajduk Split.Ronald Koeman says the Goodison factor can play a vital part in helping Everton progress to the group stages of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League. Having overcome Slovakian outfit MFK Ružomberok in a third round qualifier, the Blues take on Hajduk Split on home soil on Thursday in the first leg of their play-off. The Blues have recorded wins and clean sheets in each of their three opening competitive games of the campaign - and boss Koeman believes recording another shut-out would be a huge advantage heading into the return leg in Croatia next week. “We need a really good result at Goodison,” Koeman told evertontv. “I’m sure the stadium will be full and we will have that support that can give us a boost. “We have three clean sheets in a row and we want to make that four. Every clean sheet at home in Europe is a good result. Hopefully we can get a clean sheet with one or two goals but they will make it tough because, like us, they are fighting for a place in the group stages. It will be a really competitive game. “The last round against Ružomberok was really difficult because they were a well-organised team. Hajduk Split is maybe a little bit different, because they have more experience in Europe and they are a big name, a big club in Croatia. We know all about how difficult it is to go and play away in Europe.” Despite the clash being played over two legs, with the away goals rule to consider, Koeman says the approach of his players must not change. “The mentality has to be the same, even though sometimes you have to sometimes a few more or less risks,” he explained. “A clean sheet in the first leg is important. You know it’s not just about one game - it’s about two, so you need to be clever what to do and when to do it. “But, of course, when we start the game, you always want to win and and always want to keep a clean sheet.” A European Cup winner with both PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, the manager also insists the excitement of playing in continental competition is like no other. “I’m excited to be part of Europe,” he added. “Not just me, but also the players, the staff and the fans, because you can travel around Europe to support your team and every three days there is a game! Everyone wants to reach the stage where they play in Europe and we’re no different.” Everton FC

Sigurdsson can't play so do you think he'll start with Klassen ahead of Davies, only I'd prefer Davies.
