The likeable striker moved to Everton on a permanent deal from Turkish side Trabzonspor in the summer of 1999, for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million, having spent the previous three months on loan with the Blues. He went on to score 51 goals for the Merseysiders, and firmly cemented himself as a fan favourite at Goodison. Campbell spoke exclusively to Planet Football regarding his time with Everton, describing the experience of playing for the Blues as a 'unique' one: “I fell in love with the club. I was doing my job of trying to score goals for the team, but the fans were great to me. The people there are so passionate about their football club and they know to support the players. It is quite a unique experience being an Everton player with the fans supporting you, and that love I have for the club has not waned.”
