Everton Under-23s coach David Unsworth called on his side to fight until the end after taking another step towards the Premier League 2 title with a 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park. The young Blues now require two points from their final two games of the season to guarantee the league crown, but a point may be enough with Everton having a superior goal difference compared to second-placed Manchester City. The Toffees struggled to find their rhythm in the opening period against Spurs, but took control after the half-time interval with goals from Ademola Lookman, Bassala Sambou, Kieran Dowell and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to ensure an eighth league win in the past nine games. “I was pleased eventually,” Unsworth told evertontv. “We weren’t at our best first half and we had to shake it around at half-time and get the lads going. It happens but not very often to this group of players. The response in the second half was just outstanding, it was a terrific second 45 and some great goals to go with it. “The scoreline probably flatters us a little bit because Tottenham came here and made it really difficult for us, especially in the first half. “We’ll go to Chelsea now and we’ll pick a team to win the game. We always want to win - this is Everton so you have to have that mindset. It’s always a great game against Chelsea, they have some terrific players and I like the staff there because they do things properly. I have a lot of respect for them and it’ll be a very tough game.” Unsworth also reserved praise for Sambou and Dowell, who netted similar long-range goals at the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End. “I’m delighted for them, but it was nothing we haven’t seen in training,” he added. “Kieran does that in training day-in, day-out and we also know Bassala has great quality and he’s shown that with a great turn and finish.” Everton FC
