'Young A Tremendous Number Nine'Duncan Ferguson and Graeme Sharp have paid further tribute to Alex Young. The Everton Giant passed away on Monday, aged 80. Sky Sports’ cameras spent Tuesday at USM Finch Farm, and memories and stories of The Golden Vision have populated their coverage throughout the day. Fellow strikers and Everton Giants Ferguson and Sharp arrived early in the morning and were eager to pay their respects to their countryman. “He meant everything to Everton,” said Ferguson. “He’s a proper legend of our Football Club. The number nine is a special shirt with this Club and he was a fantastic player, and a great who won the league and FA Cup. We will all miss him.” Sharp echoed that sentiment, adding: “The Club is steeped in history and we try to encourage the younger players to learn what it means to play for Everton. "Alex was a very humble man and it was great to talk to him. He held Everton very close to his heart and the Evertonians who saw him knew what a fantastic player he was." Later in the day, Sky Sports interviewed Everton’s Chief Executive Robert Elstone, who spoke warmly of what Young meant to Evertonians. “It was a sad day but it also gives us a chance to remember and pay tribute to a true Everton legend," he said. "When I speak to fans of a certain age they all include him in their top three of all time. "He is revered here. I spoke to the Club doctor yesterday and he described him in one word - God."
