Liam Walsh netted a late penalty to rescue a point as Everton Under-23s recorded a 1-1 away draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup. Will Randall broke the deadlock nine minutes before the half-time interval, rifling home from the edge of the penalty area after beating his marker. But the young Blues responded well in the second half, dominating proceedings as Kieran Dowell twice forced Wolves goalkeeper Jack Ruddy into making impressive saves. The eventual equaliser came five minutes from the end when substitute Courtney Duffus was felled inside the area - and Walsh, on his first start after recovering from a knee injury, made no mistake from 12 yards, smashing the ball down the centre of the goal to earn a valuable point. The result means David Unsworth’s side stay top of Group D with two more rounds of fixtures to play. Next up for the Under-23s is a return to Premier League 2 action, with a trip to Manchester United on Monday 30 January.
