Huddersfield-born Reece Welch joined the Everton academy aged seven.

Having signed a first professional contract in September 2020, he established himself as an important player for Paul Tait’s Everton Under-18s side during the 2020-21 season.

His impressive progress was quickly recognised and he was promoted to train with Everton’s First Team, being named in the matchday squads for games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur in April 2021.

The 2020/21 campaign also saw Welch make his maiden appearances for Everton Under-23s, playing four Premier League 2 games, scoring his first goal in a 4-0 home win over Southampton.

Welch stated that his impressive development was testament to the expertise of the coaches he has played under throughout his Everton Academy journey.

“I’d say I was probably a late developer. The coaches always knew I had more to give and have been able to get that out of me. I like making tackles and in general I’m quite strong. I want to keep improving physically, though, and scoring more goals."

Welch, who has represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, received his first call-up for the Three Lions' Under-19 squad in May 2021.

On 4th October 2022, Everton announced that Reece had signed a new four-year contract.
