Tarashaj Nets First Frankfurt GoalEverton v West Ham (StubHub) (Hospitality)Shani Tarashaj scored the first goal of his loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening. The Swiss forward netted on the hour mark in their 3-0 victory away at Hamburg. Tarashaj rounded off a team move, as Frankfurt emerged from the weekend Bundesliga fixtures sitting in seventh position in the league standings. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Russell Griffiths was in fine form for Cheltenham Town over the weekend as he helped the Robins earn a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Grimsby Town. The three points moved Cheltenham up to 16th in the League Two table. Conor Grant was the only other Everton loanee who was involved in match action over the weekend. The midfielder played 90 minutes for Ipswich Town in their 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United - his seventh appearance of his loan spell with the Championship side. Also in the second tier, Luke Garbutt and Aiden McGeady were not involved in Wigan Athletic and Preston North End’s fixtures on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Brendan Galloway was an unused substitute as West Bromwich Albion were beaten 2-1 at Liverpool.

We could have done with an attacking option here.

Shani Tarashaj joined FC Emmen on a two-year loan from Everton in July, but his stint at De Oude Meerdijk hasn’t gone to plan. As per Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old has made just one appearance in all competitions for Emmen, none of which have come at senior level, and he may be considering his future in the Netherlands as a result.
Tarashaj was left out of the matchday squad for Emmen’s opening league game against FC Groningen (August 3) as they fell to a 1-0 defeat. The Swiss international was included in a 5-0 loss to Ajax a week later, but he failed to come off the bench. Tarashaj was again an unused substitute as Emmen beat Heerenveen on August 17, but he’s missed their 2-1 defeat to Willem II (August 24) and 3-1 loss to PEC Zwolle (August 30) due to injury.
The only game the out-of-favour striker has featured in was in the KNVB Reserve Cup for the u21s. Tarashaj was substituted at half-time as Emmen lost 2-1 to Heerenveen’s reserve side. The 24-year-old’s career is at a crossroads. He’s scored just two goals at senior level since March 2016.
He’s surplus to requirements at Everton and isn’t making much of an impression at Emmen, so will Tarashaj last two years on loan in the Netherlands? Could his move be cut short?
