Everton winger Yannick Bolasie believes AFCON could negatively impact the start of his season. The 30-year-old has struggled since joining the club in 2016 for a reported £25 million (BBC Sport).
Shortly after signing, the DR Congo international suffered an ACL injury which ruled him out for a year.
He was then loaned out to Aston Villa at the start of last season, and then headed to Belgium with Anderlecht for the second half. Speaking about AFCON, he told Goal: “Logically, if I really wanted to think [about it], I’d just put my career first and say I’m going back to Everton. “I feel myself, I’m back sharp, and I’d go and do a full pre-season, which I haven’t had in two years and which makes the difference to anyone’s season.”

Retire from International football if it is going to effect your domestic career opportunities.

Celtic are among the clubs reportedly interested in making a move for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie in the next few weeks. The 30-year-old has struggled with injuries since joining the Merseyside club in 2016, making just 32 appearances and finishing last season on loan at Anderlecht.
Despite scoring six goals in 17 appearances for the Belgian side, showing some of the form that made him such a popular signing three years ago, the arrival of Alex Iwobi from Arsenal on deadline day is believed to have made the winger surplus to requirements at Goodison Park.
A loan-to-buy deal was agreed that would see the former Crystal Palace star move to CSKA Moscow, but the player turned it down, possibly because of the racism faced by recent Zenit St Petersburg signing Malcom.
