Crystal Palace agree to sign James Tomkins from West Ham for £12.5mCrystal Palace reach an agreement with West Ham over James Tomkins 27-year-old defender will move to Selhurst Park in £12.5million deal Palace boss Alan Pardew admires former England Under 21 international South London club have had positive talks with Christian Benteke Crystal Palace have agreed a £12.5million fee for West Ham defender James Tomkins. Palace boss Alan Pardew has long been an admirer of the versatile 27-year-old, a product of West Ham’s Academy. Tomkins is set to become Palace's third signing in the space of 24 hours with the former England Under 21 international joining Andros Townsend and goalkeeper Steve Mandanda at Selhurst Park. The defender returned to pre-season training with the Hammers on Friday morning, but he is set to complete the switch across London as Pardew looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League season. Tomkins made 32 appearances for West Ham last season, scoring in the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter finals, but Slaven Bilic would appear to have his sights set on a new defensive partnership after the deal was agreed. England winger Townsend journeyed south after Palace triggered his £13million release clause at Newcastle, while Wayne Hennessey will return to face competition in goal after the arrival of France keeper Mandanda. The 31-year-old signed a three-year contract after Palace agreed a £1.5million deal with Marseille after nine seasons with the French giants. Andros Townsend poses with his Crystal Palace shirt after completing the £13m transfer on Friday Mandanda, who is on international duty at the European Championship, will compete with Hennessey, Julian Speroni and Alex McCarthy for the No 1 spot next season. Pardew will now turn his attentions adding extra firepower to his squad with Christian Benteke holding positive talks on personal terms with Palace representatives. Belgium striker Benteke is edging closer to leaving Liverpool after suffering a disappointing first season at Anfield following a £32.5million switch from Aston Villa last summer. The 25-year-old, currently at Euro 2016, is not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans going forward and realises he may need to leave to avoid his career stagnating. The need for a striker is all the more acute after Dwight Gayle completed his £10m switch to Newcastle on a five-year deal earlier on Friday in a busy end to the week for the south London club.
