After watching last nights shambolic effort by England, I have to say I thought Wayne Rooney just wasn't the player he once was. Yes he scored the penalty, but other then that he seemed listless, it seemed like everything was too much effort for him and to me, he just isn't up to it anymore.
Yes, he was good in him time - but is it time up for him now.
Thoughts guys!
It is if he plays like he did against Iceland but I'd still have him back for a season or two. He was talking about extending his United deal until retirement last time I heard.

He maybe kept on for his "experience" , but yeah he isn't the player he was. Seemed a bit deflated with the whole thing IMO.

Throughout world football there are examples of big name players retiring from international football because their last chance saloon stopped serving. Ibrahimović and Messi are obvious ones but one is 34 and the other only 29 so half of it is an inability to cope with failure on their part. Rooney is 30 so like Messi he has a few more years left. They don't have to be the very best to be good enough, but if there are better players then that's where the international problem starts. We left Drinkwater at home who had been outstanding all year in favour of out of form players.

Maybe we could get him on the cheap now.
