Martinez Warns Of Hammers Spirit Everton will need to find a way to overcome West Ham United’s strong team ethic when the East Londoners visit Goodison Park on Saturday. That's the opinion of Blues boss Roberto Martinez, who believes the spirit in the Hammers' squad is behind their successful first season under former Toffees defender Slaven Bilic. A run of just two defeats since the end of November has seen West Ham rise to sixth in the Barclays Premier League table and Martinez says the only way to overcome their collective resolve is to show an even greater desire to win. “You need to be very strong mentally in terms of your character as a team,” Martinez told evertontv. “You have to match that characteristic West Ham have. You can’t just allow the opposition to beat you in that area in football before you even get into the tactical or technical aspects. “You need to be able to cope with what the opposition brings. Clearly, West Ham have got that spirit, that work rate and they are a team that have developed a really strong belief in what they do. “That is something that you have to match in the game. Otherwise they will find it very easy to impose themselves.” The Hammers’ confidence will be soaring after they recorded a 1-0 victory over high-flying Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. However, another good result against an in-form side has not come as a surprise to Martinez, with the Upton Park outfit having also beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City this term. "West Ham deserve credit for what they have done," added the Toffees boss. "It’s not just the results they have got but they way they have got them. They are flexible tactically, a really competitive side whatever system they play and they are really strong defensively. “That they are one point from the Champions League positions reflects how well they have done this season. “We saw that when we played them at their place. It was a very close game. This time, I expect a really tough challenge but an exciting game and we are looking forward to it.”

Every week he tries to convince everybody how strong the opposition are. Every week I want to put a zip in his mouth and close it.
