'Arrogant' Martin Atkinson to referee Everton's crucial FA Cup tie at Bournemouth Controversial referee given charge of Everton's season defining tiePhil Jagielka labelled referee Martin Atkinson "a little bit arrogant" in his attitude as the controversy over Everton's Capital One Cup semi-final loss at Manchester City raged on. Everton's crunch FA Cup tie with Bournemouth this weekend will be refereed by Martin Atkinson - the official labelled as "arrogant" by Blues captain Phil Jagielka. Atkinson was in charge of Everton's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City last month and failed to spot that the ball had gone out of play in the build up to City's second goal. The Blues eventually lost 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to miss out on an all-Merseyside final. Jagielka was seething with Atkinson after the game and claimed the West Yorkshire ref made sarcastic comments about the nature of Everton's defending in the lead up to Kevin De Bruyne's strike. The Everton captain said: “I tried to (speak to the referee about the incident) but he just told me that our defending was brilliant. “It is difficult when things start going the wrong way and they become a little bit arrogant, but unfortunately that is the way it goes." Atkinson also angered Everton fans in the 2011 Goodison derby when he wrongly sent off Jack Rodwell, a decision which was later rescinded. Everton face Bournemouth in the fifth round on Saturday (5:15pm). Liv Echo

Maybe it's a good thing getting Atkinson now as maybe if we win he won't referee anymore in the competition.

We've only won 1 more game than Bournemouth have so it's important to expect a hard battle as this isn't the strong Everton team we used to know but a team that can smash Man City one day and lose against WBA the next. He's going to have to pick a strong team or the fans will lynch him so can't see any room for mistakes. If we win, we are one more win away from Wembley so worth going for.

It's true in my opinion. We must quit thinking we're going to walk all over teams. Everton are not as good as Martinez keeps telling us and it's all designed to make us think he's doing a better job than he is.
